Cold Weather Hunting
Cold weather hunting is won or lost on layering, not on one expensive coat. Three layers do the work: a base layer that moves sweat off your skin, a mid layer that traps warm air, and an outer shell that blocks wind and water.
The mistake most hunters make is dressing warm for the walk in. You arrive at the stand damp, and damp is what makes you cold enough to leave early. Walk in cool and carry your insulating layer, then put it on once you are settled.
Extremities fail first. Insulated waterproof boots rated well below the temperature you expect, plus wool socks and a spare pair, will keep you out longer than any jacket upgrade. Same for gloves — carry a thin pair for shooting and a heavy pair for waiting.
