Before You Head Out — The Hunting Checklist That Could Save Your Trip

Most hunters don't fail in the field. They fail in the driveway — when they realize they forgot something that mattered. Run this checklist before every trip and you won't be that guy.

1. Clothing and Camo

Dress for the conditions you'll actually be in, not the conditions when you leave the truck.

  • Waterproof chest waders — if you're hunting wetlands, marsh, or creek bottoms, these waders keep you dry from chest to toe. Nylon and PVC construction, built for hard terrain.
  • Camo hunting shirt — quick-dry, breathable, long sleeve. This one works for all-day wear without soaking through.
  • Camo capadjustable, breathable, keeps sun and rain off your face without blocking your sight line.

2. Safety Gear — Non-Negotiable

This isn't optional. Every single trip, every single time.

  • First aid kit
  • Map and compass or GPS — don't rely on cell service in the backcountry
  • Headlamp with fresh batteries — early mornings and late evenings happen fast
  • Fire starter — lighter, matches, and a backup
  • Whistle — three blasts is the universal distress signal

3. Seating — Because You'll Be Waiting

Hunting is 90% patience. A bad seat makes that miserable. The Portable Camping Chair with Lumbar Support folds compact, holds up heavy, and keeps your back from giving out during a long sit.

4. Communication and Visibility

  • Two-way radios if you're hunting with a partner
  • High-visibility markers for your stand or blind location
  • Let someone know where you're going and when you'll be back — every time

5. Pack Smart

  • Water — more than you think you need
  • High-calorie food — jerky, nuts, bars
  • Multi-tool or hunting knife
  • Rain poncho — weather changes fast
  • Extra ammo or arrows

Check the list. Load the truck. Go hunt.
